MacTeX and LyX Installation

Change the system date to ~2015 and then install "mactex-20161009.pkg".
Afterwards, unarchive "MacTeXtras-20160604.zip" and look for "LyX" within
"Editors & Front Ends/LyX"; pick the cocoa version. You will also want
to install "cocAspell" in the "Spell Checkers" directory as LyX needs
this for spellchecking. Under "Previewers," there is "Skim," which is a
good PDF, PS, DVI, etc. document viewer/annotator.

When installations are done, you can change the date back to current.
