Assume 32-bit Intel 10.6.8 with Rosetta installed but some software may run on 10.5 or 10.4.
Rosetta is for running Carbonized PowerPC Mac OS X applications.
- Adobe CS4 Master Collection - (technically for Tiger/Leopard) includes a BUNCH of Adobe-related software; HOWEVER, if you do stumble upon this software (and a serial), you will still need to turn back the date to around 2008 to launch any of the applications
- Anime Studio Pro 8 - "the efficient alternative to time-consuming, frame-by-frame animation"
- Apple Loops Utility Development Kit v3.0.1 - this SDK (user-friendly GUI) provides the tools and guidelines for creating audio loops in the Apple Loops format for use within Apple audio applications.
- Ardour v6.7.0 - a free and open-source digital audio workstation (DAW)
- Aria Maestosa 1.4.9 - a free and open-source MIDI sequencer/editor
- Arturia Minimoog-V Original - a really great synthesizer with standalone and AU/VST plugins; works with GarageBand; comes with several famous presets
- Audacity 2.2.2 - free and open-source audio-editing and recording; ffmpeg library; LAME (MP3) library v3.99.5; LADSPA Plugins
- Audio Overload 1.5.1 - use this to play video game music
- Audiorecorder - use this if you are looking to use audio recordings as notes; it can also send recordings to iTunes, has VOX capability, and convert to MP3; however, it is shareware but you could just edit recordings with Audacity to remove "register reminders"
- Avidemux 2.4.4 QT4 - "a free video editor designed for simple cutting, filtering and encoding tasks"
- Burn 2.5.1 - easy to use disc burning software
- Clementine 1.0.1-707-g27f60c2 - a free and open-source music player with a neat mood feature and Internet radio options
- DVDStyler 2.4.2 - a free and open-source video DVD authoring program
- GarageBand 6.0.5 Extra Content - the extra content, such as loops and etc., that is normally installed via downloading from the app; alternative link
- GB2MIDI - converts a GarageBand project file to MIDI, assuming only MIDI instruments were used; click here to use the online, JavaScript version; click here for instructions
- Groove Machine v1.0.2 (Demo) - "a multichannel (drum)sampler, multitimbral hybrid synthesizer, sequencer and last but not least a 'Groove Box', inspired by hardware of this genre"; standalone as well as AU/VST plugins
- GuitarixOSX 0.24-v6 - a free and open-source guitar program; you will need JackOSX to use it
- HandBrake 0.9.5 CLI - a free and open-source video converter; command-line version
- HandBrake 0.9.5 GUI - a free and open-source video converter; graphical user interface
- Hydrogen 0.9.6-beta1 - a free and open-source drum machine program; you can install Hydrogen v1.2.3-win32 via WINE if having drumset compatibility problems
- iDVD 7.1.2 Update - use this to update iDVD after installing iLife 11
- iLife 11 - includes iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, iWeb, and iDVD; however, you will need to change the system year to 2010 before installing and then you can change it back after opening everything
- iSpectrum 2.0.9 - an easy to use audio spectrum analyzer that allows you to view live audio in a standard frequency plot, a stereo oscilloscope view and a waterfall display
- iTunes 11.4 - a multimedia and mobile device (up to iOS 8) manager by Apple
- iWeb 3.0.4 Update - use this to update iWeb after installing iLife 11
- JackOSX 0.89_64-32bits - it is like Jack on GNU/Linux but for Mac OS X; it is 32-bit; do not let the "64" part fool you; click here for a PDF manual
- Jazz Plugin v1.1 - a web browser plugin for playing MIDI files
- LilyPond v2.19.80-1 - a way to create music notation pragmatically
- LMMS v1.2.2 - Windows XP version; use WINE; a free and open-source digital audio workstation (DAW); alternative to FL Studio
- Logic Express 9 - a digital audio workstation; however, I recommend doing as much as possible in GarageBand and then open that project file with Logic Express for further tweaking
- M1 0.7.7u4 "Axl" - use this to play music from arcade games and Sega Genesis ROMs
- Macsome Audio Splitter for Mac v1.1.0 - use this for an easy way to split audio files
- Max v0.9.1 - an audio CD-ripping tool
- MediaEdit v3.2 - video editing software
- MilkyTracker 0.90.86 (Universal) - a free and open-source modular music tracker
- MotionArtist v1.2 - animation tool designed specifically for creating motion comics; serial required; turn year to 2014 to install and then back afterwards
- MultiMode 5.9.2 - allows you to decode and transmit morse code (CW), RTTY, FAX, SSTV, SITOR-B, NAVTEX, PACKET, ACARS, PSK31, ALE, and many other modes on your Macintosh, without any extra hardware
- MuseScore 1.3 - a free and open-source music notation program
- Musorg v0.3 - use this to edit the ID3 tags in MP3 files
- Opus Framework v1.0.3 - a framework for Opus; you may also want OpusFile framework
- Papagayo v2.0b1 - a lip-syncing program designed to help you line up phonemes (mouth shapes) with the actual recorded sound of actors speaking
- Perian 1.2.3 - adds more audio/video playback formats to QuickTime 7; does not work on QuickTime 10
- Screenflow 3 - opens as a screen-capture program by default but includes video editing tools; it also has a feature that makes it easy to add text-to-speech audio tracks using the system's built-in stuff
- Screenium v1.5 - "record exactly what you see on your screen and make it a screencast"; however, note that QuickTime v7 has an easy way to start screen recordings; VLC also has screen recording capability
- sforzando v1.625 - a free, highly SFZ 2.0 compliant, sample player
- Sibelius 6 - music notation software; HOWEVER, I would only grab it for "AudioScore Lite" (quick and dirty music notation software) and "PhotoScore Lite" (OCR for music score scans); Sibelius itself requires an admin account at first launch but will most likely fail
- SIDPLAY v4.1.3 - a Commodore SID music player
- Soundflower v1.6.2.1 - a virtual audio device that provides an easy and simple way for Max/MSP and other application to send and receive audio to and from any other application
- SoX 14.4.0 - Sound eXchange, the Swiss Army knife of audio manipulation; place binaries and symbolic links in "/usr/local/bin"; you will need 'libmad' for MP3 conversion
- Stykx v1.0.2 - frame-by-Frame stickman animation software, compatible with Pivot Animator files
- Toon Boom Studio 6 - a program for creating cartoon animations
- TuxGuitar 1.5.6 - edit and playback guitar tablatures
- VLC 2.2.8 - a free and open-source multimedia player; for other Mac OS X versions, click here
- Winamp v0.7.3.54 - an audio player that has been around a long time and supports lots of formats
- Xilisoft HD Video Converter v6.03 - an audio/video converter that supports several file-formats; however, most of these can also be done using Audacity and VLC
- XMBC v9.11 - a free and open-source multimedia center; you may now know it as "Kodi"

- ffmpeg v2.6.1-1 - install using Cydia; use 'ffmpeg' in a terminal app to convert audio/video files
- FL Studio HD v2.4 or FL Studio Mobile v3.1.13 - the mobile version of a digital audio workstation that used to be known as "Fruity Loops"; unlike GarageBand, FL Studio has MIDI export; while the newer version is MUCH better, version 2.4 is compatible with "FL Studio Producer Edition 11" for Windows XP, which also runs well under WINE
- GarageBand (Mobile) v1.3 - a digital audio workstation by Apple; this version is compatible with GarageBand 6.0.5 listed above
- iMove for iOS 8 - use this to edit videos on iOS 8; however, the IPA file is ~682 MB and may not be worth the installation size just to put video clips with audio tracks together
- Pianist Pro v1.7 - play and record; keys are labeled; has drum backing-track and arpeggio capability; you can also set the keys to only display those within a key and scale; save your work as a MIDI file or export to audio
- VLC v3.6.4 - a free and open-source multimedia player with far greater file-format support than the default apps; use this to avoid iTunes; if this version fails to launch, uninstall and try v2.9.0; however, it does not organize as well as 3.x
