Recommended PlayStation 3 Games |
Title |
Description |
A Boy and His Blob |
A high-quality, cartoon-like, 2D side-scroller in which you play as a boy that feeds his "Blob" jelly beans and the blob turns into things to help solve each level's various puzzles |
"Armored Core" games |
If you like the idea of piloting a customizable, giant "mech" to battle other mech pilots and robots throughout several missions and great (usually) electronic music, you will love these games; however, the music in "Armored Core For Answer" was too "piano/classical" and sort of odd compared to the others to the point you may want to mute it |
"Battlefield" games |
From "Bad Company" to "Battlefield 4," especially the online multiplayer, they are all fantastic. These are first-person-shooter games involving modern combat with much more realism than the "Call of Duty" games. |
"Call of Duty" games |
The "Call of Duty" series for the PS3 are mostly first-person-shooters that vary from modern to science-fiction with certain games having the option for a zombie survival mode |
"Dead Island" games |
An open-world, zombie survival, horror game in which you and the survivors on an island resort most figure out a way to escape; it has leveling-up elements, driving, and weapons creation |
Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition |
It is "Duke Nukem 3D" but the extra missions and features like rolling back time if you die, auto-save, and keeps video records of game-play |
Duke Nukem Forever |
The aliens are back again! The graphics are no longer the typical Duke Nukem 3D (2.5D) style and it looks really good and plays well; a must have for fans of "run-and-gun" games with the Duke-like perverse humor we all love |
"Elder Scrolls, The" games ("Oblivion" and "Skyrim") |
An open-world, role-playing, first-person video game series that has way too much going for it to adequately explain; there is a main quest and several side-quests that will probably take you longer to complete than your PS3 will survive; "Skyrim" is better than Oblivion and the "Ultimate Edition" should give you around 1000 minimum hours of game-play if you try to do everything |
"F.E.A.R." games |
(First Encounter Assault Recon) A first-person-shooter horror series in which you are faced against both the natural and supernatural; there are three F.E.A.R. games for the PS3; a first-person-shooter horror series in which you are faced against both the natural and supernatural; it "itches a scratch" that the "Killzone" series could only almost do |
Gran Turismo 5 |
A great-looking racing game with lots of features/customizations; warning: between the installation and possible updating, this game may take-up quite a bit of room |
Grand Theft Auto IV |
Not as good as GTA V but, it is still fun to play like most of the other GTA's (III+) before it |
Grand Theft Auto V |
A third-person, open-world, "do what you want" sort of game in which you have a main story line but there is plenty of other things to do; one of the main characters was involved with a bank robbery gone horribly wrong but gets off and his past eventually catches up to him; you can eventually switch between multiple characters, each having their own missions and lives |
"Harry Potter" games |
Well... it is sort of a recommendation (or a warning) if you are a fan of the franchise and need a break from first-person-shooters. You may actually just be as well off playing the PS2 releases of years five and six and reserve the PS3 for year seven parts one and two. Let your need to do/find everything go and just play through the games and be done with it; the open-world like environment looks great but is ultimately a trick. |
Last of Us, The |
A third-person survival horror game in which instead of the typical zombies, the infection is fungal; the story and scenery are excellent |
Minecraft |
A PS3 version of Minecraft; create or survival a world made of blocks with different textures and the occasional odd creature; unfortunately, no keyboard and mouse support; the creation part may provide a "therapeutic time-killer" if nothing else |
Red Dead Redemption |
An open-world, third-person-shooter, wild western game (~1912) with a really great story; it is the "Grand Theft Auto" of wild west games; and no, the story or characters have nothing to do with the "Red Dead Revolver" game |
Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare |
Time-table wise... I am not sure; but, imagine "Red Dead Redemption" but with zombies! The dead have risen in various forms of cliche-like zombie types and you must figure out what is causing it and put a stop to it. The original "Red Dead Redemption" is not required and both games provide a way for multiplayer on the same servers (if they still work). |
"Resident Evil" games |
Zombie survival horror games; if you have not at least played "Resident Evil 4" on the PS2, you are missing out; Resident Evil 5, 6, and the "Revelations" games are a must for the PS3; there are remakes of the older ones, but they still use the annoying tank controls |
Rocksmith 2014 Edition |
Learn how to play lead on a select few songs using an actual guitar using a familiar "Rockband" and/or "Guitar Hero"-like style; a USB guitar cable was included; more songs could be purchased |
SOCOM 4 |
As a third-person-shooter, you play as a U.S. Navy Seal; it is more "run-and-gun" than they previous PS2 games that required a more stealth-like approach |
Wolfenstein |
Not to be confused with the classic "Wolfenstein 3D" due to MUCH better... everything...; however, the story is more or less the same; Nazis are playing with the occult and you must stop them; it is not as run-and-gun as Wolf3D, Doom, etc. type games; they made another Wolfenstein game after this one, but eh... the controls sort of suck |
